Truffle hunting in Provence
Event dates: November 2012
This time, on top of the usual gastronomic delights, we are offering an outing with experienced truffiers and their dogs in search of these rarest of mushrooms, all culminating in a 6-course truffle menu created for us by a three-star Michelin-trained chef.
Programme and truffle hunting in Provence
Thursday - departure from Prague-Ruzyně airport at 06:45, arrival Nice at 08.30. Pick-up by minibus. Transfer to Nice – old town centre for lunch and visiting the seafront. Afternoon visit to AOC Bellet with a visit to a winery and tasting. Transfer to Saint-Léger and the Auberge du Coustet, check-in then a light supper with tutored tasting of regional wines.
Friday - after breakfast transfer to the village of Villars-sur-Var for a visit to a winery Clos Saint Joseph, northernmost wine appellation of the Côtes de Provence and the only one in the département of Alpes Maritimes. Travel through mountainous villages, where there were once wineyards, stop in the historical town of Entrevaux on the River Var and free time to explore or have lunch in one of the local restaurants. Afternoon visit to the exhibition of regional products, transfer to the village of Saint Antonin and visit a farm which makes renowned cheeses from unpasteurised milk under the name Tomme de Serre Lions au lait cru. Return to Saint Léger and walk to the local museum of folk traditions and the romantic church of Saint James, where people from across the globe sometimes come to tie the knot. Gastronomic dinner in the Auberge du Coustet with wines.
Saturday - after breakfast rendez-vous with “truffier“ and his little dog in Puget-Théniers and head off to the task of hunting truffles. Our catch will later serve as lunch at the Auberge de la Penne where renowned Michelin-starred chef Benoît Poulet (with experience not only in the Louis XV with Alain Ducasse, but also in London, Los Angeles, Bordeaux...) and his British wife Maria prepare a six-course truffle menu. Afternoon excursion to La Croix, nearby village on a rocky peak reminiscent of an eagle’s nest. Dinner with wines at Auberge du Coustet.
Sunday - after breakfast check-out and transfer to the Bellet region, the smallest apellation in Provence, which is to be found in the outskirts of Nice.
